General Description
The purpose of the Ultrasound Technologist is to perform Ultrasound procedures as ordered by Licensed Providers for diagnostic purposes. This position will be located at the Shawnee Clinic in Shawnee, Oklahoma. It will also be a requirement that this position may travel and work in the Little Axe Health Center in Norman, Oklahoma as needed. The Ultrasound Technologist will also be required to cross train for X-ray and perform X-ray exams.
responsibilities & Duties
Ultrasonographer
Receive patients; perform ordered examination by Licensed Provider.
Communicate and instruct each patient before starting the exam on what to expect and how the process works.
Obtain medical history as appropriate for the exam.
Use process to send test to Radiologist for reading.
Communicate findings to the ordering physician.
Provide a safe and clean environment for the patients and co-workers in the clinic. Make minor repairs and adjustments to the ultrasound equipment.
Provide monthly report.
Safeguards confidentiality of the medical charts/records and complies with all local, state, and federal laws pertaining to medical records. Assures compliance with all HIPAA regulations concerning use, retrieval, storage, and sharing of medical records.
Maintain professional certification through ARDMS and adhere to all AAAHC requirements.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Qualifications
High School Graduate or GED Equivalent.
Associates degree in Radiology/Ultrasound, Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Experience in lieu of Education can be considered.
Completion of ultrasound training through Radiology, A.R.R.T. based program or equivalent in training.
Must be registered with American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS) or CCI.
Experience with digital PACS radiology systems and electronic health record systems.
Must have independent performance of a number of complex and difficult examinations; prefer at least three (3) years’ experience including experience in an endocrinology practice.
Knowledge of radiation protection standards, devices and techniques with the understanding of the limitation of each and the ability to understand and compensate for each.
Knowledge of physiology, anatomy and the appearance and location of major organ systems such as the urinary tract, digestive and respiratory systems.
The ability to operate the ultrasonography equipment alone.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Must have a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License.
Must be able to pass a background check.
Must be able to pass a drug test.
Skills and Attributes:
Thorough knowledge of ultrasound science and the biophysical effects of ultrasound.
Knowledge of the ergonomic effects of ultrasound to ensure safety of the ultrasonographer.
The ability to understand the physiology of the human and all major organs.
The ability to correctly position patients for radiographic exposure including the ability to make technical adjustments to compensate for body size, frail patients and immobile patients.
The ability to interact well with patients, staff, and other agency professionals.
Occasional stress when working with anxious patients.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Good organizational and assessment skills.
The ability to fully utilize a computer.
The ability to perform duties with minimum supervision.
The ability to be a dependable team member of the clinic setting and be ready to start work on time.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Physical Demands: Must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform the tasks normally associated with an X-Ray Technician such as:
Standing six to eight hours per day.
Involves some bending, stooping, squatting, reaching above the shoulders, twisting, turning, kneeling, and pushing, and pulling.
Heavy lifting 75+ lbs.
Required to move equipment and transfer patients.
Work Environment: Radiological unit. Exposure to disease, radiation, and toxic chemicals in the course of performing the work.
