General Description
This position provides pharmaceutical services for patients at the Absentee Shawnee Tribal Clinic. Work involves dispensing medications, inventory control, patient education, and workflow management. The pharmacist is under the supervision of the Director of Pharmacy.
Responsibilities & Duties
Compound and dispense medications, controlled substances, and other pharmaceutical supplies ordered by providers and maintain patient profiles.
Review patient profiles for appropriateness of drug therapy, allergies, interactions, and side effects; consult with providers regarding dosages believed to be excessive or not appropriate.
Ensure the completeness of all dispensing records, compliance with all applicable legal and ethical standards, and the completion of all inventory records required by clinic policy or outside regulatory agencies.
Keep current with recent developments and applicable literature; advises physicians and other staff concerning questions about medications and outpatient operations.
Responsible for purchasing to ensure that drug supplies are available in appropriate quantities and that needed supplies are ordered; monitor drugs for proper dates, packaging, and efficacy; coordinate emergency acquisition of drugs.
Counsel patients and parents regarding medications; ensure customer service is a top priority.
Perform quality control and assurance activities; identify and report variances in assigned monitoring activities.
Attend pertinent and applicable meetings, including in-service/educational sessions on operational and clinical topics.
Keep informed on implementing and filing third-party claims and patient assistance programs.  Ensure proper distribution of billing data for the pharmacy.
Assist in monitoring resources within the pharmacy; implement approved changes in resource allocations; identify and report variances.
Assist in developing and implementing departmental policies and procedures and monitoring compliance. 
Assist in implementing policies and procedures to ensure the safety of staff members and the continued integrity of all tribal property and funds contained in an area of responsibility.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements & Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college of pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree.  
Thorough knowledge of pharmacy practice and standards.
The ability to relate well with patients to gain their acceptance and confidence.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to relate well with co-workers and the general public.
Ability to adjust to changing conditions.
Ability to manage workflow and give direction to support staff.
Must be computer literate and familiar with pharmacy software, including billing procedures.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
Must be able to pass a background check.
Must be able to pass a drug screen.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, bend, or kneel for long periods.
Sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, and stooping; good finger dexterity and feeling; frequent repetitive motions; talking, hearing, and visual acuity.
Frequent lifting (up to 15 lbs)
