General Description
This position is located at Little Axe Health Clinic, Norman, Oklahoma.  Little Axe Clinic is an outpatient multi-disciplinary clinic established and managed by the Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma to serves Native Americans.  The main function of this position is to assist patients with finding third party resources in order to bill for services provided. 
Responsibilities
Patient Benefit Advocate
Identifies uninsured patients (new applicants) through review of scheduling, database query, and interdepartmental referral.
Inform and answer patient questions regarding Disability, Social Security, Medicare and SoonerCare. Keep abreast of all eligibility criteria and covered benefits.
Assists clients to complete applications for alternate resources. Receives patient information through interview, electronic or mailed correspondence.
Recruit SoonerCare (Medicaid) patients to use ASTHA as PCP.
Verify insurance active coverage dates and covered benefits of patients.
Performs routine clerical duties including processing incoming and outgoing mail, copying all necessary documents, filing, and maintains mailing lists.
Enters client data into the appropriate database; maintains accurate files, and organizes data.
Conducts self in accordance with AST administrative manual.
Maintains strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.
Assists in answering phones and scheduling patient appointments when needed.
Other duties as assigned.     
Education Requirements and Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Knowledge of or experience in working with third party resources such as Medicare, Medicaid and Private Insurance, Contract Health or Coordination of Benefits, medical records, reception and patient registration
Knowledge of billing procedures and insurance verification
At least three years of clerical, secretarial, or medical office experience
Skill in using a computer and knowledge of software to access and interpret patient data
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Culturally sensitive to Native Americans
Self-motivated, have the ability to prioritize work tasks and be creative with projects
Good organizational skills
Must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug test.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, bend or kneel for long periods of time.
Sitting or standing or walking for long period of time; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, stooping; good finger dexterity and feeling; frequent repetitive motions; talking hearing and visual acuity.
Frequent lifting (up to 15 lbs)
Occasional lifting (up to 30 lbs)
