General Description
The Absentee Shawnee Tribal (AST) Health System is a tribal owned healthcare corporation that services both AST and other Native American Tribal Members.  We are offering internship positions with the prospect of attracting and locally growing our own talent for a career in a healthcare profession, either locally or within the state. 
Responsibilities & Duties
Work with staff on policy research/development issues in a timely manner.
Attend and record meetings and assist in preparation of minutes/agendas.
Assist in advancing initiatives to expand healthcare initiatives/community outreach.
Assist in all areas as assigned with administrative support/assistance in all clinics.
Assist in clinical areas as per guidance of directors/professional staff.
Call patients and family members for appointments/surveys.
Assist in healthcare operations as needed by department managers/staff.
Intern will comply with all health system and tribal policies and procedures.
Must comply with CDC and OSHA requirements for COVID protocols while working in a healthcare clinic setting; must be fully vaccinated as identified by the CDC.
Cultural immersion activities are numerous and participation in at least one event or more are expected as part of the program.
Other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements and Qualifications
Education and Qualifications
Currently enrolled or actively seeking enrollment in a College or University Professional degree program or vocational program in a healthcare related field with any of the area Vo-techs.
On-site Supervisors/ Supervision Plan
The program oversight will oversee the successful completion of this program. The intern will report to the program oversight for the duration of the internship.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of fundamental concepts and practices relevant to the field.
Ability to communicate in a professional manner.
Ability to work effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office— Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
Ability to perform diverse takes or projects as needed.
Must have a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License.
Must be able to pass a background check.
Must be able to pass a drug test.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Twenty hours/week Monday-Friday. May be some evening/weekend hours. A schedule of sharing time between the health system’s locations will be developed before the internship begins but is subject to change based on circumstances.  Intern must be flexible in their support/assistance to departments. 
Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, bend or kneel for long periods of time.
Sitting or standing or walking for long period of time; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, stooping; good finger dexterity and feeling; frequent repetitive motions; talking hearing and visual acuity.
Frequent lifting (up to 25 lbs)
Occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs)
