We provide free confidential services to Native and Non-Native victims/survivors of Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Stalking, Dating Violence, Elder Protection and Family Violence within Pottawatomie, Cleveland, Lincoln and Oklahoma Counties, and to Absentee Shawnee Tribal Members across the nation. Our advocates can meet at a safe, public location including the Tribal complex or near AST Food Pantry, 40210 Benson Park Road, Tecumseh, OK. All services are based on eligibility and funding availability.
Mission
The Absentee Shawnee Tribe’s Domestic Violence Department strives to eliminate violence in Native Country and to strengthen Native Families to end the cycle of violence.
Victim/survivor advocacy includes confidential advocacy for victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, stalking, dating violence, elder abuse, family violence and sex-trafficking, including 24 hrs. per day and seven days a week crisis intervention and support. Each victim/survivor will receive emotional support and resources to Tribal programs and other local community programs. Advocacy can be provided at hospitals, police stations, throughout the legal system and in the community as needed. The program also serves as a resource center to the community by offering educational information and referrals.
The Crime Victim Services program assists clients that have experienced sexual assault and domestic violence with supplemental services. Our services include assisting clients with finding boarding for their pets when they need to go into safety. We also help those pets by working with local vets to get the pets their vaccines. The CVS program assists clients with emotional support, advocacy, and assistance. The program is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week and advocacy can be offered at hospitals, police stations, shelters and our office. All services are based on eligibility and the availability of funding.
Victims of domestic violence, dating violence and family violence and their dependents require several supportive services to ensure safety, security, independence and a life free from abuse. As a result and with the use of FVPSA funding the AST Rising Warrior plans to assist adult and youth victims with supportive service options including safety planning, advocacy, emergency needs, referrals and case management. In addition, the funding will support services for the non-abusing parent in their role as a caretaker when instances of domestic violence, dating violence, or family violence are present. Supportive services will be provided through confidential direct assistance to victims of family violence and their dependents for the purpose of preventing further violence and to ensure safety as an ongoing need.
Supportive services that will be provided to adult and youth victims of domestic violence, dating violence which may include:
-Assistance in developing safety plans, and supporting efforts of victims of family violence, domestic violence, or dating violence to make decisions related to their ongoing safety and well-being.
- Culturally and linguistically appropriate services.
-Services for children exposed to family violence, domestic violence, or dating violence, including age-appropriate counseling, supportive services, and services for the non-abusing parent that support that parent’s role a caregiver, which may, as appropriate, include services that work with the non-abusing parent and child together.
- Advocacy, case management services, and information on referral services, concerning issues related to family violence, domestic violence, or dating violence intervention and prevention.
All services are based on eligibility and funding availability.
It is the goal of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe OVC Elder Protection Program to provide services to elderly victims of physical abuse, physiological abuse, sexual abuse, exploitation, neglect, financial or material exploitation, abandonment and spiritual abuse.
Elder abuse can occur anywhere, including an elderly person's home, a family member's home, an assisted living facility, or a nursing home. Mistreatment of elderly individuals might happen by family members, strangers, health care providers, caregivers, or friends. Community elders must be 55+ to qualify for the program.
Services include protective orders, emergency needs, elder safety kits, court advocacy, medical transportation due to abuse, as well as cultural healing practices. All services are based on eligibility and funding availability.
Housing assistance is based on availability of funding and a demonstrated need. To qualify for assistance the victim/survivor must complete an intake and meet with an advocate to determine eligibility.
Court advocacy helps victims/survivors who are in need of filing an emergency protective order or other domestic violence related matters such as emergency custody or divorce. The court advocate accompanies victims/survivors to domestic violence related court matters and provides referrals and safety planning as needed.
Referral Assistance offers community resources to those who are in need of additional services outside the scope of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe’s Domestic Violence Program.
The Sexual Assault Advocacy services provide on-call 24 hours per day emotional support, advocacy and crisis intervention to sexual assault survivors at hospitals, police stations and throughout the legal system as necessary.
The Absentee Shawnee Tribe’s Domestic Rising Warrior Department does not operate a shelter and therefore refers to local shelters to provide the service. Advocates can provide assistance in locating emergency housing/shelter. Below are the DV Shelters available in Oklahoma, Pottawatomie and Cleveland Counties.

Community Outreach
The Absentee Shawnee Tribe’s Domestic Violence Program participates in community events to provide awareness/education regarding domestic violence related information and available services.
