General Description
The Absentee Shawnee Tribe (AST) Behavioral Health Grants Unit seeks a motivated and community-focused individual to support the NIH HEAL NCR project focused on behavioral health, pain management, mental health, and substance abuse. This position is an excellent opportunity for an individual passionate about research and community engagement. A willingness to learn is required, but prior research experience is not a prerequisite. The role provides hands-on experience and opportunities for professional growth in public health and behavioral health research.
Responsibilities & Duties
Assist with organizing and managing day-to-day research operations and participant recruitment.
Conduct data entry, cleaning, and organization using research software and tools.
Create research tables, graphs, and presentations using MS Office tools.
Assist in various administrative tasks related to research operations, procurement, and event planning.
Act as a liaison between the research team and the AST community to foster trust and collaboration.
Build relationships to promote knowledge of and engagement with grant activities.
Coordinate focus group discussions on behavioral health/pain management topics.
Assist with conducting interviews with community members and stakeholders (e.g., schedule, note taking, question review and analysis).
Assist with survey distribution, data and form collection, and data entry.
Help in analyzing qualitative and quantitative data.
Write research article summaries.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field (e.g., public health, psychology, sociology, or a related discipline preferred.
Previous experience in behavioral health, pain management, or substance abuse research preferred.
Experience leading focus groups or conducting interviews preferred.
Knowledge of Indigenous cultural practices and sensitivities in a research context preferred.
Active member of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe community preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a passion for working in the native community
Proficiency in basic MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Familiarity with and/or willingness to learn research practices and new methodologies
Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and work collaboratively in a team
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, bend or kneel for long periods of time.
Sitting or standing or walking for long period of time; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, stooping; good finger dexterity and feeling; frequent repetitive motions; talking hearing and visual acuity
