Responsibilities & Duties

• Performs duties of Medical Director in absence of Medical Director; conducts peer reviews of assigned providers and mid-levels (MDs, DOs, PAs and NPs).  Assures patient complaints are addressed and logged in a timely matter and acted upon; coordinates Q/A and other clinical quality and compliance issues with appropriate staff; responds/reacts to administration’s taskings and workflow as necessary to accomplish work of executing the strategic plan.  Performs staff provider interviews and manages schedules when necessary to include de-conflicting of providers time of and CMEs.
• Maintain Controlled Substance Registration Certification with the US Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control (OBNDD) to prescribe and administer Schedule II/ IIN, III/ IIIN, IV, and V narcotics;
• Attend continuing medical education courses deemed appropriate for the physician’s specialty by the American Medical Association, Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, and other widely-recognized professional medical organizations.

• Performs physical examinations utilizing techniques of observation, analysis of patient history, inspection, auscultation, percussion, palpation. Employs diagnostic instruments as required.
• Performs and/or orders diagnostic investigations and studies including laboratory and imaging tests. Interprets and evaluates test results discriminating between normal and abnormal findings to identify the presence of disease and/or disability.
• Identifies, diagnoses, and manages specific illnesses and disease processes.
• Formulates, implements, and administers treatment plans in a manner which optimizes patient participation in the care plan. Performs minor in-patient procedures consistent with training, competency, and privileging. Oversees patient adherence to medical and nursing regimens for stable chronically ill patients and adjusts treatment plans and protocols to maximize the patient's quality of life and ability to perform activities of daily living.
• Arranges referrals to inpatient facilities, specialty care providers, community health nurses, and home health practitioners for patients requiring care or treatment beyond the scope of practice at the clinic.
• Establishes and maintains contact with patients' care givers and family members to provide health education and training, and counseling.
• Performs emergency services and life sustaining measures to stabilize patients in need of emergent care prior to transporting to a local emergency department.
• Conducts and documents in-service training on topics of interest for other members of the clinical and administrative support staffs as needed. Trains other clinicians on the use of medical devices and equipment employed at the clinic.
• Serves as primary supervisory physician for physician assistants and nurse practitioners employed by the tribe.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Be a graduate of an accredited medical school (M.D. or D.O.) and be licensed to practice medicine in the state of Oklahoma;
• Be Board Certified or eligible for Board Certification by a recognized Board organization;
• If a graduate of a foreign medical school, be certified by and pass the examinations administered by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates; 

• Must be able to attend continuing medical education courses deemed appropriate for MD’s/DO’s by local, state, and national professional organizations including the American Medical Association;
• Be capable of meeting the physical and mental demands of the position i.e. extended periods of standing; frequent interruptions; long, irregular hours; and the pressures and demand of dealing with ill and injured and their family members; and constant exposure to infectious illness and disease.
• Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates;

• Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, bend or kneel for long periods of time.
• Sitting or standing or walking for long period of time; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, stooping; good finger dexterity and feeling; frequent repetitive motions; talking hearing and visual acuity.
• Frequent lifting (up to 15 lbs)
• Occasional lifting (up to 30 lbs)
• Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check and drug screening.
