General Description
The individual filing this position is assigned to the Shawnee Clinic Same Day for the purpose of providing professional nursing care to a patient population exhibiting a variety of illness and injury.  The incumbent is subject to the administrative supervision of the Director of Nurses, Clinic Administrator, Executive Director of Health and functional supervision of the Clinic’s Medical Director.  The incumbent supervises the activities of Medical Assistants, Certified Nurse Aides, and Licensed Practical Nurses assigned to the Clinics, as well as nursing students conducting internships, field training, or practicums at the clinic.
Responsibilites
Provides screening of patients to obtain preliminary health histories, makes a physical assessment of patients’ condition using proper nursing protocols, recognizes and reports any unusual or abnormal behavior that may indicate a need for urgent care. 
Documents within the patient’s medical record any nursing observation and assessments, nursing interventions, therapeutic measure and nursing notes related to the medical care of the patient.
Provides assistance to the Clinic Medical Director and Medical Staff with medical care and treatment of patient to insure quality and continuity of care within the parameters of appropriate professional nursing standards. 
Promotes continuity of care by providing medically relevant health care instructions and patient education. 
Provides assistance to the Director of Nurses in situations that are described in the Clinic Emergency Preparedness Plan or as directed by the Clinic Medical Director or designate.
Participates in continuous quality improvement activities including quality assessments, surveys, checklist assessments, and entering into ActionQue at the beginning of each month.
Provides written reports to the Clinic Administrator and Director of Nurses.
Supervises the Licensed Practical Nurse, Certified Nurse’s Assistant, Medical Assistant and any student nurses assigned to the Clinic.
Provides assurance of Confidentiality of Medical Records.
Assists the Director of Nurses with ensuring new nursing staff complete their new hire orientation within 90 days.
Assists the Director of Nurses in providing new employee and yearly competencies to nursing staff.
Manages and accepts ON-CALL duties for the clinic on a rotational schedule.
Completes employee yearly evaluations and submits them to the Director of Nursing for approval.
Handle incoming patient calls; triage calls, make decisions with medical staff to ensure patient quality call for patient care.
Make sure inventory of immunizations through VFC is accurate all documentation for program is managed; this may be delegated to other nursing staff.
Ensure all QC in clinic are complete. This may be delegated as well.
Ensures that there is correct staffing in Primary Care and Specialty Clinic and fills in as needed in either location.
Is willing to travel to other clinics to help out as needed to ensure proper staffing in other clinics.
Education/Qualification Requirements
Must have at least four (4) years of professional nursing experience, including at least one (1) year of supervisory experience covering a wide range of nursing services from screening and assessments to patient education, counseling, and treatment of minor and chronic illnesses.  Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a degree and certification as a Registered Nurse.
Must have a professional knowledge of nursing care principles, practices and procedures, working knowledge and application of proper nursing protocols, training and knowledge of pharmaceuticals and their side effects and complications of use. 
Ability to observe and react to adverse signs exhibited by patient and the ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations. 
Able to educate and counsel with patients regarding their medical care and treatment as ordered by a physician. 
Must be able to effectively relate within the local community. 
Must be able to respond effectively to oral and written directives. 
Must have a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License.
Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
