Howard Gene Wilson, 73, of Shawnee, Oklahoma passed away Saturday, August 26, 2023 at his home in Shawnee.
He was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma on April 8, 1950 to Cletis Clifford and Marcella Juanita (Masquat) Wilson.
Howard was raised in the Johnson Community. He graduated with the class of 1968 from Earlsboro, Oklahoma. Howard earned his associate degree in graphic arts from OSU Okmulgee Tech in 1970. He lived in Pawnee for a short time but lived most of his life in the Johnson Community.
He worked for the Sac and Fox tribe for a short time. Most of his life he worked as a heavy equipment operator in the oil and gas industry.
Howard was a proud member of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe. He loved golf, especially pasture golf, loved OU football, coaching little league and fixing up old cars. He was a member of Sallateeska Baptist Church. Howard was respected, loved and will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cletis and Marcella Wilson; brother, Wayne Wilson; and sister, Cleta Tiger.
Survivors include his son, Jeff Allen Wilson, Clinton, OK; daughter, Sabrina of Paden, OK; sister, Teresa Jones; numerous grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.

Community Development Statement
The Absentee Shawnee Tribe plans to submit an application for Fiscal Year 2023 Indian Community Development Block Grant through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
This application will be for a new multipurpose building at Camp Nikoti Youth Camp in Norman, OK.
The Absentee Shawnee Tribe would like to take this opportunity to make this project available for public discussion and comments, as well as review and comment on the Tribe’s performance under any active community development block grant.
Meeting for public comments will be held Monday, August 14th at 3:00 p.m. at the AST Multipurpose Building at 2025. S. Gordon Cooper Drive, Shawnee, OK.

American Indian Science & Engineering Society (AISES) has recently received scholarship support from Polaris for students to apply who are interested in or currently pursuing a trade school profession.

AST School Clothing Participants -
You will receive a call from the School Clothing Program when cards are loaded. PLEASE do not call the School Clothing Program to see if cards have been loaded. Every year a school clothing application will need to be filled out with a copy of the child’s updated CDIB card.
If the CDIB card is expired, please contact the AST Enrollment Department to update the card.
School Clothing applications can be dropped off in person at the office; drop box in front of AST Police Department or by mail to Absentee Shawnee School Clothing Program, 2025 S Gordon Cooper Drive, Shawnee, OK 74801.
