Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma
The Absentee Shawnee Tribe is primarily located in the heart of central Oklahoma with approximately 4,723 members who live in all parts of the world as of as of December 31, 2024. Our tribal government complex is located in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Our logo features Tecumseh, a Shawnee warrior and visionary leader, who worked to unite tribes in a common homeland where Indians could live under their own laws and leaders. He died in October 1813, in battle near the area of present day Thamesville, in Toronto, Canada. The LI-SI-WI-NWI in our logo means “Among the Shawnee”

The Executive Committee of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma, in accordance with the Constitution, Article XVI, Section 3, “Executive Committee Meetings” here by calls and declares public notice that the REGULAR meeting of the Executive Committee of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma has been scheduled for Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at 10 AM at the Absentee Shawnee Tribal Complex in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Misty McGirt, Tribal Secretary Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma Dated this 29th day of January 2025.

Shirley Florence Simpson

Shirley Florence Simpson, 84, of Tecumseh, Oklahoma, received her heavenly reward on January 11, 2025. She was born July 20, 1940, to Fred and Lillie Mae (Polecat) Spoon. Shirley always put her family first. She was able to really help take care of her loved grandkids after she retired from General Motors in the early 2000’s.  Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Christine Watkins and Geraldine Abrams; infant sisters, Claudine and Chloe Spoon; brothers, Steve Spoon, Robert Spoon, Carl Spoon; and infant brother, Luther Spoon. She is survived by her children: John Allen Spoon of Shawnee, Lesa R. Simpson and husband, Alex Blanchard, of Tecumseh, Flo Mann and husband, Glenn Mann, of Tecumseh, and Thurman Simpson of Tecumseh; her grandkids: Hillary Spoon, John Spoon Jr., Lillie Simpson, Chelsey Blanchard, Henry Blanchard and Raechel Simpson; her 10 great grandchildren; sister, Linda Foster of Tecumseh; brother, Virgil Little Charley of Little Axe; numerous nieces and nephews; other extended family members; and a host of friends, including her best friend, Elsie Patty.

AST Election June 15th 2019

FROM THE ELECTION COMMISSION:
The June Run Off Election will be held Saturday June 15, 2019. The polls open at 8:00 am and close at 6:00 pm/ Polling places are located at the AST Resource Center in Little Axe and the AST Multipurpose Building in Shawnee. 

Memorial Day 5/27/2019

In Observance of Memorial day  the Absentee Shawnee Tribe will be closed Monday May 27, 2019. The Complex will reopen on Tuesday May 28, 2019 at 8:00 am. 

Closure of The Absentee Shawnee Tribe 5/20/2019

Due to the possibility of inclement weather the Executive Committee has agreed to close the AST Complex at 12 (noon) today. The tribe will reopen at 8:00 am Tuesday May 21, 2019.
