2010 Constitution Questionnaire

Dear Tribal Members:

The Constitution Revision Committee would like your input on how the revisions of the Constitution are progressing thus far.  We have completed a rough draft up to Article VI- Executive Branch, Section 6.  As a Committee, we have come up with these ideas and suggestions on how to revise our current Constitution to be more relevant to the current situation of the Tribal environment.  We would like the revised Constitution to be a reflection of how we want the Tribe to be more like a business so that we can be competitive with other Tribes.  We understand we are not a large Tribe but we hope that with some of the revisions we are making we can grow and compete with these larger Tribes.  We hope this is something you as Tribal Members want as well, not only for yourself but for future generations.

Please take the time to review the Questionnaire and fill out the boxes under each section that has revisions.  There is a question which guides you to the changes which will ask you yes or no, please circle your answer.  There is also a space for you to write in your own comments.  If there is not enough room in the boxes, please feel free to include additional paper.  There are 24 questions in all. 

There is also an electronic copy of the Questionnaire as well as the current Constitution on the AST website, www.astribe.com.  If you would, please print out a copy of the Questionnaire and fax or mail it back to Briana Ponkilla.  The surveys will be reviewed and compiled.  The results will be shared with the entire Tribe. 

There will be a Special General Council meeting on Saturday, February 20, 2010 from 9am-12pm to discuss these changes and to receive input from the Tribal members.  I will have the results of those Questionnaires that I receive.  Please plan to attend this meeting.

We would also encourage those who are interested to come to the meetings and give your input on these revisions as well as those we will continue to work on in future meetings.  Our next meetings will be Jan. 13 from 9a-12p at the Little Axe Resource Center.
